| Axline Pharmacy was founded by William Axline, Sr. who came to Monmouth College in 1917, graduating in 1921. In 1927, after several years of coaching and teaching in Princeville, Illinois, Mr. Axline graduated from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, and formed a partnership with Henry Bradshaw, then owner of Spriggs and Bradshaw, 55 Public Square, Monmouth. The store featured paints and photography supplies and was owned around the turn of the 20th century by Spriggs and Carris. Mr. Axline owned and operated the drug store in Roseville, Illinois from 1927 until his retirement in 1970. In 1960 he formed a partnership with his son, William Axline, Jr. and Robert Crawford. They operated the business at 55 public square until 1967 when the new pharmacy was built at 220 North Main Street, Monmouth. It operated as Axline Crawford Pharmacy until 1977 when Mr. Crawford left the business. William Axline, Sr. and William Axline, Jr.operated the business as a corporation until the death of Mr. Axline, Sr. in 1986. Since that time, Axline's Pharmacy has been owned and operated by William Axline, Jr. In 2002, the pharmacy installed their 4th computer processing system, a satellite data transmission of insurance billings and automated tablet counters along with optical scanners to optimize accuracy and efficiency. The prescription area was doubled in size due to the increase of prescriptions being filled. The pharmacy employs 28 people, 12 of whom have been employed by Axline's Pharmacy for over 12 years, and is open 64 hours per week. In addition to Mrs. Sandy Axline helping her husband three of the employees have served Axline customers for more than 20 years.... Linda Taylor, Judy Slater and Roger Cummings. Two others, including Mark Shallenberger and Shirley Caldwell, have been employed by the pharmacy for more than 10 years. |
